In the late 19th century England, social class distinctions were held with high regard. This is the setting of Eikoku Monogatari Emma (Victorian Romance Emma), a shoujo manga, and later 2 season long anime, series created by mangaka Mori Kaoru.
Amongst the rigid rules and proper relations distinguished in those times, a forbidden love evolved between William Jounes, the son of a nouveau rich family, and Emma, the maid of a retired governess. In a world as prejudice as their own, such a pairing was unacceptable; but for William and Emma, this is only the start of the hardships to come. Can then break free of the bonds society has forced on them, or will they succumb to the pressures of society and banish each other from their hearts?
